Stage Three was a big day in many ways. It’s a particularly long stage with an extra checkpoint as a consequence. It’s also been the hottest day so far and had the most wildlife sightings, with all the ‘big-5’ ticked off by the time we got to 10am. One particularly inquisitive rhino came right down by the trail to watch the race go by under the watchful eyes of our ranger team.
The runners set out from camp in 3 waves, and attempt to give the slower runners the best possible chance of reaching the finish in daylight ad to cover as much distance as possible before the worst of the heat. A handful of runners were still unable to reach the next camp by dark but all were brought back to camp safe and well.
The winner of today’s stage was Katsushige Hoshino, followed by Angel Elenkov, James Pattison, and Rachel Belmont. The overall winner remains Karl Alvarez.
Congratulations to everyone today on a huge day. The full results are below. Race start is back to the usual time at 0700 (0900 UK). Follow live via our GPS tracker and look out for updates on Facebook and Instagram.
