Today was the longest day of the race and for many of the runners, it really felt it. There are some very tired legs at camp tonight after the 2 big climbs today, and the scorching temperatures have taken a toll.

But that hasn’t stopped them from persevering and pressing forward. The wildlife and the rangers motivate them as they move too. Also, this group has really gelled. They chat and share their experiences at camp and look out for each other on the trail. For some, it’s been the difference between success and failure.

James Hassan won out today as 1st male and 1st overall. he. said he was strong on the hills and he wasn’t wrong. Tom Makin kept him in sight though coming in only 10 minutes behind. Alex Ward took 3rd. Andreas Gast had a noteworthy day and seems to be getting stronger as the event goes on. He was actually first over the line, but due to the staggered starts he had had a one hour head start on the leaders.

Lou Cole and Katie Baker crossed the line together today taking joint 1st female. Veronique continued her excellent form once again taking 3rd.

Sunny Tsand and Helen Manzano are out of the race, but we want everyone here to get the most out of their experience and so they were allowed to start from CP2 today, setting off once the first runner had past that point. Both finished their own version of the stage. Frank Ruiz, Lawrence Baca and Wendy Dale were brought in by vehicle today as there were concerns that their pace would leave them on the course after dark, something much too risky in this area.

The racing starts again at 07:00 (05:00 UK) tomorrow. See you then.
