The second Highland Ultra stage couldn’t have been further from the first. Smashing rain was replaced with sunshine, and coastal climbs gave way to big mountain terrain. 

The runners experienced the Highlands at their most spectacular, climbing high towards the Munros, dipping into hidden glens, and clambering across various river crossings. 

Robert Richardson was first over the line with a time of 6hrs 57mins, followed by Edward Moore (7hrs 8mins) and Craig Hamilton-Smith (7hrs 44mins)! 

Brittney Stewart was first female and fourth overall with a speedy 8hrs 30mins, followed by Nolwenn Denis (9hrs 21mins) and Melissa Aragon (). 

Other notable events from across the day included Jules Bardwell (10hrs 44mins) taking an early swim after falling in the river at one of the early crossings. He finished with his usual cheery spirits though, even donning his shorts in the final few kilometers in an attempt to dry them out!

Jonny Pain took in the majesty of the mountains, relating to the basecamp team upon completing the stage that he ‘stopped and just soaked it all in’. 

Our final finisher Samuel Nova faced down his demons today, finishing the stage that he DNF’d in at the first edition of the Highland Ultra. Trooping into camp with a grin, his only words ‘that was awesome’.

With the sunset’s dusky auburn glow falling across the camp, runners head off for an early night, desperate to increase their recovery time. 

Kicking off a 9:30 tomorrow the runners will take on Lunnie Bheinn, following the coast before climbing high into the hills above Inverie and then dropping down to the finish line, where a famously remote pint awaits!
