The runners departed Aktse early this morning, hopefully well-rested and warmed by the fires they kept burning through the night. The day began with a stretch of pine woods and frozen lakes, where some lucky runners caught a glimpse of reindeer moving through the trees.

Then came the race’s biggest challenge: Mount Kabla. A 700m ascent over just 6km tested their endurance, with those reaching the summit in clear weather rewarded with breathtaking views, while others faced punishing winds and exposure.

The descent saw them dropping nearly 1,000m through thickly snow-drifted forests, where progress was slow even with snowshoes. By the end of the stage, the runners arrived at Arrenjarka, a picturesque tourist lodge where they could dry out, refuel, and prepare for what’s still to come.

Leading the charge once again was Men’s stage winner Alexander Welch, completing the brutal course in 6:48:00. Following him was 2nd overall and Women’s stage winner Ioana Barbu, finishing in 7:25:00.

Marc Rhodes and Dave Benison rounded out the Men’s top three, crossing the line in 7:31:00 and 7:40:00, respectively. Sheena Berry and Katie Hislop took second and third in the Women’s field, finishing in 9:51:00 and 10:07:00.

Further down the field, Jörg Stäglich delivered a strong performance, completing the stage in 8:19:00. Henry Francis wasn’t far behind at 8:31:00, while Jacob Dalgas Michaelsen fought through the deep snow to finish in 9:20:00.

As night falls, the runners settle into Arrenjarka, tending to sore muscles and drying out their gear, knowing that another grueling day awaits.
