Race Report and Race Results

The first stage of the Beyond the Ultimate Mountain Ultra proved to be both challenging and awe-inspiring. Known as ‘The Nomad,’ this stage took the runners through a diverse landscape under the intense heat and thin air of high altitude.

Stage 1 began in picturesque Alpine meadows, with runners following rivers and roads for the initial few miles. This gentle start gave way to the surreal Red Rock Valley, where the terrain became rugged and otherworldly, with towering red cliffs creating a dramatic backdrop. This stark shift in scenery provided both visual splendor and physical challenges, making it a memorable start to the race.

The day was marked by intense heat, with temperatures soaring and the altitude adding an extra layer of difficulty. Despite these harsh conditions, all participants successfully completed the stage, showcasing remarkable determination and endurance.

Tonight, the runners are sleeping in traditional yurts in a small nomad village, offering a unique opportunity to bond with their Kyrgyz host families and immerse themselves in local culture. Eagles soaring above the camp added a majestic touch to the already spectacular scenery.

The camp buzzed with camaraderie as the runners shared their experiences from the day’s race. The last runners arrived around 4pm local time, and the sense of accomplishment was palpable as participants discussed the day’s challenges over dinner.

Reinhold Hugo (3:34:00) and Eddie Avraham (3:34:00) were the first men across the line today, tackling the boiling-hot stage with ease!

Behind them came Tom Evans (4:20:00) and Rory Warnock (4:20:00) in joint second, forty minutes later. All of these gents have adapted well to the altitude, and were blessed with an afternoon in the sun in the picturesque alpine meadow in which they’ll be staying the night.

First female over the line was Veronique Lievin, who crossed the line in 4:55:00, with Katie Baker (5:06:00) and Beibei fan (5:47:00) just behind.

With the first stage behind them, the runners are now preparing for the next leg of the race. The friendships built during the first stage will serve as a crucial support system as they face the upcoming challenges in the stunning yet unforgiving terrain of the Tian Shan Mountains.

Stay tuned for more updates as we follow these incredible runners on their journey through one of the most beautiful and demanding ultramarathons in the world.
